A RESOLUTION TO RESTORE ONE AREA OF SANITY TO MINNESOTA:
WHEREAS the National Rifle Association has convinced a majority of the Minnesota Legislature and Governor Pawlenty that all Minnesotans would be more safe and secure in their persons if they all carried loaded, concealed firearms, and
WHEREAS the so-called “conceal-carry” bill was passed by the legislature and signed by the governor and became effective law in Minnesota May 28, 2003, and
WHEREAS the legislature exempted itself and schools from the provisions of the law but not the public facilities of city, county and township governments in Minnesota, and
WHEREAS the supervisors of the Town of Duluth do not believe that a more armed, loaded and concealed society is a more safe and secure society, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Duluth notify our state Senator and Representative of this resolution and request that they initiate legislation to repeal the “concealed-carry” law in its entirety, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Duluth join in support of other townships, cities, and counties demanding repeal of the “conceal-carry” law, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that until the above law is repealed, the public buildings of Duluth Township – namely the Town Hall, the Community Center, and fire-halls – are to be “concealed – loaded firearms unwelcome” facilities, and posted conspicuously as such near all entrances.
George made a motion to adopt the resolution, seconded. Stephen made a motion to table all portions of the resolution with the exception of the bottom paragraph which is to be posted; the remainder of the resolution is to be tabled for a month, seconded. Motion passed
